Demonstration
I recorded videos of examples of me working through realistic information architecture problems. Doing my job, as it were.
The examples are your chance to watch information architects at work. The lectures are pretty theoretical, and the examples aim to take it to a fully practical place. They show me (or a colleague, if I can get some of that happening) working through a realistic problem, using the information architecture tools you’re learning in the course. Unlike the problem set problems, they don’t have predefined context, so they show you how an IA creates that context for themselves: the choices they make, the conventions they establish on the fly, the kinds of things they feel entitled to have opinions about.
To get the most out of these, think about the choices the IA is making. Would you make the same choice? Why or why not? Do you think they missed something? Are they weirdly worried about something you’d ignore? These are great things to bring up in the discussion board or in your reflection.
