Executive presentation framework
I don’t recall where I got this, maybe a Twitter thread? I use it frequently, though.
- Conclusion: Why you’re there, what you expect from them, the problem you’re solving.
- The problem you’re solving and why it matters. Make sure everybody’s on the same page.
- What are we currently doing about the problem? You can split it into what we’re doing well and what we need to improve.
- What are competitors or industry leaders doing? Where do we stand? Who’s doing it better?
- What’s your solution? Scale the detail of this solution to the audience and switch it out depending on the people you’re presenting to.
- What’s the cost? Money, resources, time, change of direction, opportunity, etc. The more details the better.
- What’s the cost of inaction? Doing nothing has a cost. You want this to be compelling enough that even if the full cost of a solution isn’t covered, they know they can’t just move on doing nothing.
- What’s your high level execution plan? Assure them that you have a good enough plan to know what it will cost.
- The action items. The conclusion again, but in a call to action format.
