An intellectual tradition can provide meaning

As IAs, our something larger can be a discipline with a bevy of intellectual traditions to choose from. I come from library science. I come to work with Marcia Bates and Brenda Dervin at my back. My intellectual ancestors don’t have to be yours; people in our field see different roots. Dan Klyn’s work draws extensively from architecture, Andrew Hinton’s from environmental psychology. Whoever your intellectual ancestors are, bring them along. Let them remind you that you’re not alone.
